Status update, source MEP R.Sulik and slovak firearms association...
In English, it would take me ages to write this in German.
- Last week there was ECR session with experts, led by V.Ford. Shooting organizations were also there. Experts agreed on the conclusion that there would be many negative effects and few positive.
- Ford said that she prefers constructive approach and therefore she will not reject the legislation but she will instead amend it so that it's ok for all parts. (This is IMHO a very bad sentence. She will take care that UK collectors are fine. And eastern europe, where real weapons are for now allowed - bad luck for them.Next slice is gone.)
- Slovak firearms association and R.Sulik are involved and they will submit their comments to Ford.
- MEPs in the group working on this: V. Ford – UK, ECR; D. Charanzová – CZ, ALDE; S. G. Cofferati – IT, S&D; P. Durand – FR, Greens/EFA; R. J. Iwaszkiewicz – PL, EFD; a M. Troszczynski – FR, ENL. (Again very bad. IT, FR and UK are pushing for the ban. They have majority in the group)
- LIBE and AFET will have their own comments to legislation and IMCO can accept them. (we've seen a sample

)
- If on June 27 IMCO votes (majority vote, 21 of 40) for final text, it will go to EP. IMHO really bad. UK, FR and IT: 14, with Belgium and Germany 18, it then just takes few small votes and it's approved.
- Strongly for the ban: France, Italy, U.K.
- Against: SK, CZ
- Unknown but could be against: Hungary, Poland
- Germany: Sulik is afraid that for political reasons they will join UK, IT, FR
- Finland: not as against as they should be.
- It seems that the voting will be divided by countries and not so much by political fractions.
- We should write a lot to all 40 IMCO members, rational arguments, ....

And beauties from EESC:
It banned certain types of weapons, introduced a requirement to provide a genuine reason for possessing a weapon (which could not be purely for self-defence)
A cap on the number of firearm licences issued to the same person;
A cap on the acquisition of spare parts;
After all the news today, I'm depressed.
Ford is from UK and it shows, she cares mostly only about collectors, reenactors, ...
UK, FR, IT pro ban, Germany may side with them.
Opposition from CZ/SK/... will be ignored.
And from the documents from other committees, it's quite clear that next slices will follow soon.
I think that the only way which would help are people in the streets, that would make bureaucrats scared. But that will not happen for firearms, Europeans are too stupid for that.
All this is exactly the same as we had 20 years ago in Slovakia. "Elite" deciding what is good and what is bad for us, taking our basic rights away. New form of totalitarianism, wonder what name will it eventually get.
