Wayne Hendrix states he uses “ATS 34 (154 cm) which is professionally heat treated to a Rockwell C Hardness of 58-60. This steel is one of the best corrosion resistant steels available today with edge holding characteristics that are desirable in a working knife.” There are a lot of upper end knives using this steel, and for good reason. It holds a very good edge, is tough, and has a nice high Rockwell C hardness. This blade is smooth, free of imperfections and has a finish like a mirror. I had to use black paper in front of the blade when
Hendrix knives are hollow ground to keep sharpening easy, and maintain a sharper edge longer. The blade themselves stay thick, and have a fully tapered tang. Guards are made of Stainless Steel. Sheathes are made from 8 or 9oz vegetable tanned leather. All sheaths are wet formed to the knives, and later dipped in oil and harness dressing.
Wayne Hendrix is known for for his hunting and fishing knives, and are worth a look, especially if you are into custom knives.
