der klassische repetierer kommt immer mehr in den hintergrund,da sich ja die einsatdoktrin gewaltig geändert haben.
das 2 mann sniper team was alleine auf sich gestellt jagd auf offiziere und führungspersonal macht gibts defakto gar nicht mehr
und ACOGs sind auch immer mehr im einsatz

Israeli Sniper 'Shot Women Without Orders'

An Israeli soldier will face military prosecution for allegedly shooting dead a Palestinian mother and daughter who were waving white flags

The unnamed sniper stands accused of firing without orders at the women while they tried to reach safety with a large group of relatives.

The marksman - who will be charged with manslaughter rather than murder - becomes the first soldier to face prosecution by Israel's military for killing civilians during Operation Cast Lead.

The incident was one of dozens of alleged outrages carried out by Israeli troops during the three-week offensive on Gaza at the turn of the year in 2008-2009.

Critics say it has taken too long for Israel to investigate the numerous alleged abuses during the conflict in which more than 1,000 - mainly civilian - Palestinians were killed.

Israel's Military Advocate General said the sniper's charge was "based on evidence that the soldier, who was serving as a designated marksman, deliberately targeted an individual walking with a group of people waving a white flag without being ordered or authorised to do so".

But he said discrepancies between soldiers' accounts of the event and that of Palestinians led to the charge of manslaughter and not murder.

Israel says a number of officers and soldiers will be indicted for their conduct during the conflict, while also dismissing dozens of other cases.

Others facing charges include a battalion commander accused of sending a Palestinian civilian into a house to persuade gunmen to leave.

A criminal investigation has been ordered into the shelling of a house.

But the Military Advocate General rejected claims the Israel Defence Force (IDF) targeted civilian infrastructure saying the evidence showed the damage was caused while Israeli soldiers were targeting Hamas fighters.

Evidence gathered by Sky News in the aftermath of Operation Cast Lead suggests this conclusion is at best naive.

There were clear instances of deliberate military vandalism, including the systematic and intentional destruction of Gaza's cement production plants where buildings were bulldozed and cement mixers and pump trucks tipped over and wrecked.

An Israeli military spokesman denied the announcement of the prosecution was timed deliberately to coincide with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the White House.
